Announcements for the Start of School

Hello Lakeshore Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. The Lakeshore staff is excited to see you soon for the first day of school. Our staff is preparing to welcome students on Monday, August 16. We know that there is a lot of information that you need to to start the year successfully, and we have done our best to compile some of the most frequently asked questions and answers below.

Thank you all for your support and partnership. We are looking forward to a terrific year!

Before and After School Programming

We have had lots of questions and concerns about before and after care programming at Lakeshore. For those new to our community, Lakeshore has had two main daily programs for many years: Everyday Magic and ExCEL.

Everyday Magic (EMI) is not planning to open for the first day of school. They are considering several factors related to operations and will re-evaluate when more information is available.

ExCEL is currently taking applications for before- and after-school care.

A third daily after-school option is Afternoon Mandarin Program for both English- and Mandarin-speakers. Weekly enrichment programs in piano, chess, LEGO, and drama will also be offered. Note that the start and end dates of weekly programs are staggered throughout the first few weeks; they do not run all semester long.

Please visit Before and After School Programs for details and enrollment instructions for all of the above programs.

What About COVID?

All schools in SFUSD will be using the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s most current guidelines to ensure our students’ safe return to in-person learning. In most ways, our return to school will look and feel much as it did pre-pandemic, with the exception of the following:

  • All students and staff will be required to wear masks at school, regardless of vaccination status
  • Students will eat lunch outside with the class to ensure greater distancing
  • In-person playdates and orientations will be cancelled to prevent large numbers of adults gathering together (although note: our Saturday, August 14 playdate is still on, since these gatherings are typically small-to-medium-sized and outdoors)

Students will not need to be screened daily as they enter, but it is essential that if your child is ill, they stay home. We will be sharing more specific guidance with families prior to August 16.

General Education Bussing

This year, students riding the general education bus to school will be required to board with their bus card, which will allow staff to track their safe route to and from school. If you have already been approved to ride the Gen Ed bus, please plan to come and pick up your child’s bus card during times below:

  • Tuesday, August 10 from 2-4 at Lakeshore
  • Wednesday, August 11 from 2-4 at Bret Harte Elementary School
  • Thursday, August 12 from 2-4 at Lakeshore
  • Friday, August 13, 9-4 at Lakeshore

Can’t make it? Students will be able to board without their bus card on the first day of school and staff will make sure they leave that afternoon with their bus card.

Still need to sign up for the bus? Please visit this website to sign up ASAP.

ParentSquare Update This Weekend

ParentSquare is Lakeshore’s electronic communication platform. It’s an important way to receive class information from teachers, bulletins and emergency notifications from staff, and updates from our community.

This weekend, August 7–8, ParentSquare will be updated for the 2021-22 school year. Our goal is to have classes set up in ParentSquare by the morning of Monday, August 9.

New Lakeshore families: be on the lookout for an invitation to ParentSquare. We will send the invitation to your email or phone on file with SFUSD. If you prefer to be invited at a different email or phone number, please submit that at https://bit.ly/ls-cci. We encourage everyone to activate your account.

Returning Lakeshore families, please see details in ParentSquare.

Tip: ParentVUE is SFUSD. ParentSquare is Lakeshore. The two systems sound similar, but are totally separate. Updating your contact info in one system does not update it in the other system.

Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) Available Now

The new Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) for 2021-22 school year is now available online. It is a super important step for all SFUSD families to complete every school year.

Your application may:

  • Help secure essential funding for our school, like teacher salaries field trips and school supplies
  • Make you eligible for discounted utilities like internet access
  • Make you eligible for afters-chool programs and fee waivers
  • Help you receive benefits regardless of citizenship status

The eligibility results from the MFIF submission on SchoolCafe.com can be a ticket to these great benefits and more!

Free Meals for All!!!

Thanks to the extension of waivers by the Federal government, all students at all schools will continue to be served all meals at no charge!

  • Breakfast: With the exception of our Breakfast in the Classroom schools, we will resume regular service models on the first day of school and look forward to supporting those schools who are adding before-school care due to earlier start times.
    • Breakfast in the Classroom service will resume on 9/6 after staff training. We will have Before School Breakfast available at these schools.
    • Please check here for more information on breakfast.
  • Lunch: We will resume regular service models. However, with the new SFDPH Guidance for K-12 Schools regulations, eating meals outdoors is recommended.
  • Snack: We will provide free snacks for all K-12 schools where 50% or more of students are eligible for free/reduced meals. Snacks will be delivered a day ahead to classrooms at Elementary Schools.

Upcoming Events: Summer Playdate and New Family Orientation

Come play on the Lakeshore grounds and meet new friends at our final summer playdate on Saturday, August 14 from 10am–noon. Families, please bring your own food, drink, and toys. Attendees need to be masked. This is not a drop-off event.

A note about the New Family Orientation previously scheduled for Thursday, August 12: we apologize for the late notice, but out of an abundance of caution due to the Delta variant, the in-person event will not take place. Kindergarten teachers will be contacting their families to provide the info you need before the first day of school. In addition, a virtual Back to School Night, normally only for returning families, will now be for everyone, stay tuned for details! Thank you for your understanding.
