Announcements – November 18

(These announcements appear in the November 18th Edition of The Paw Print Press)

Math a Palooza
Math a Palooza Night is tonight! I hope to see all of our Lakeshore Stars at this fun event. As an added bonus for attending tonight, children will be given a stamp on their program to be turned into their teacher for a FREE HOMEWORK PASS! See you tonight! – Ms. Keener

Mindful Teaching & Learning at Lakeshore
Has your child taught you how to sit with a “mindful body” yet? If so, you know something about what’s been going on at Lakeshore with mindfulness. If not, ask your child to tell you about mindfulness, and see what he says. Tell him/her you want to see him/her sit with a mindful body, and see what s/he does. Mindfulness is paying careful attention to what’s happening right now, around us, without making any judgments about it. The children learn to pay attention to sounds, breathing, body sensations, movement, and feelings. More and more of our children are telling us they are using it to calm down, focus on schoolwork and/or to stop and think about their actions before reacting. Look for more news about the Mindful Teaching and Learning program next week in the Paw Print Press. – Ms. Keener

The AIDS Memorial Quilt
In honor of World AIDS Day on December 1st, our school will be host a panel from the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt from Monday, November 30th-Friday December 4th in the Community Room. The Quilt is a symbol of the epidemic that continues to claim lives in the United States and around the world. It offers communities a message of remembrance, awareness, and hope. Purchase SCRIP before the holidays and support the lakeshore PTA!
Since the previous two Scrip orders were so successful (we raised almost $1,000), we are offering one more chance to order Scrip – prepaid shopping cards or gift cards—before the December holidays. Watch for the yellow order forms coming home this week or get one from the office. When you shop with Scrip, retailers donate a percentage of your purchase (up to 23%!) back to the Lakeshore PTA. You can purchase Scrip for your everyday needs – groceries, gas, clothing – from retailers like Lucky, Safeway, Chevron, and Ross. You can also buy gift cards for people or purchase Scrip for stores where you will be doing holiday shopping – Borders, See’s Candies, Toys R Us, and Bed Bath and Beyond are just a few examples of the MANY participating retailers. Many stores donate higher percentages during the holidays, so now is a great time to buy. Orders are due Monday, Dec. 7th and will be delivered by Tuesday, Dec. 15th. Questions?
