Announcements – November 10

Message from Ms. Keener: STAR
STAR (State Testing and Reporting) begins April 5, 2011 and it is never to early to access information about the upcoming testing for grade 2-12 students. Students need home and school support to perform at their very best!
Did you know that the goal in California is to have all students perform at the proficient or advanced level in English Language Arts and Math?
PARENT STAR INFORMATION WEB SITE The California Department of Education and the State Board of Education has designed a website to help parents and teachers gain an understanding of the STAR Program to better familiarize their children with testing. The web site is:    www.starsamplequestions.org and it will help parents in three (3) key ways:

  1. Understand how their child is performing
  2. Identify areas where their child/ren may need additional help
  3. Access resources related to the STAR test

If you have any questions or would like further information about STAR, please contact Ms. Keener or speak with your child’s teacher.

PTA Pledge
Send in your PTA pledges! We are asking for 100% participation from our community. Donations can also be made through our website: click the “Donate” button to make a payment via our PayPal account. The funds we raise will help Lakeshore to continue providing Art, Drama, Gardening, Motor Perception and so much more. -Julie Lin

Scrip
Next Scrip Order Due 11/19
The following retailers have temporarily increased their school contribution during this order period:

  • The Body Shop, now 20% instead of the normal 8% contribution.
  • Bath & Body Works, now 18% instead of the normal 13% contribution.
  • Restaurant.com, now 55% instead of the normal 50% contribution.
  • Shutterfly, now 14% instead of the normal 9% contribution.
  • Sports Authority, Land’s End, L.L. Bean, Home Depot, and JC Penney also temporarily increased their school contribution by 2%.

Remember, scrip are the same gift cards or gift certificates that you would buy at the store. Participat- ing retailers agree to sell scrip to our school at a discount. Families like yours buy (and redeem) the scrip for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue. You’re basically raising money for Lakeshore through purchases that you would’ve made anyway.
Orders submitted by 11/19 will be delivered by 12/3.
Forms will come home with your child. You can also get the scrip order form and retailer list from lakeshoreelementary.org under “Forms & Documents.” Copies are also available in the scrip PTA folder in the school office.

Hurray for Halloween!
Halloween at Lakeshore was so much fun! I am proud of everyone who stepped up at the last minute. Thanks to the following parents, Lakeshore staff, and students for their contribution in keeping the spirit of Halloween alive. – Melanie Vose
