Truancy Policy
Please remember to call in your child’s absence to the school office. Indicate the reason for absence. The following reasons are valid excuses for absences:
- Illness
- Medical appointments
- Funerals (1 day in California, 3 days outside of California)
- Appearances in court
- Observances of a religious holiday or ceremony
Please note: Independent Study is an optional, educational alternative for students who are going out of town or out of the country or who are temporarily otherwise unable to attend school for a personal or medical reason for up to two weeks. Please notify your child’s teacher if your child will need to be on an Independent Study. He/ she will complete the paperwork needed with assignments to be completed for your child’s absence to be excused. This must be done prior to the absence.
Truancy-Education Code Section 48260 defines a truant student as one who has been absent from school without a valid excuse three or more days, or tardy in excess of 30 minutes on each of three or more days, or any combination therof, in a school year. It is expected that every school site follow up on absences for truancy determination. – Ms. Keener
Spring Fling Cancelled
Please note that Spring Fling is cancelled this year due to an insufficient number of volunteers. However, the good news is that we will have a Fall Harvest Festival this fall! Keep your eyes posted for notices on the new Fall Harvest Festival in October, 2010.
Please plan on attending the May 12 PTA meeting to discuss the fates of Spring Fling, the Silent Auction Fundraiser and other Lakeshore events for the upcoming school year. If we do not fill our volunteer roster for these events, they will be canceled in the upcoming school year. PTA meeting (Wed., May 12; 6:30-8:00 pm) will include childcare for elementary school age children, and pizza. If you cannot attend the meeting, please let me know how you can help next year. I can be contacted via email at megumifuse@gmail.com
Jamba School Appreciation Program
Jamba Juice has partnered with National PTA to create a fun and easy year- round school fundraising opportunity – the Jamba School Appreciation Program. A flyer and a swipe card have been sent home with your child. The cards have already been programmed so it is ready to be used! Just present this card at time of Jamba pur- chase and 10% will be donated to Lakeshore’s PTA! So easy! It’s like using the Lucky’s Shares card. Extra cards are available in the office so feel free to take more and pass them out to friends and family who are Jamba Juice fans. Remember to keep this card handy during the summer as well!
Fundraising
We are still over $10,000 short of reaching our PTA Pledge Goal. We are facing huge budget cuts for next year, but the PTA is trying its best to continue providing enrich- ment programs to ALL of our children at Lakeshore. We cannot do this without your generous contributions.
– If you have not already made a donation to the PTA then this is a great time to do so.
– If you were not able to attend the auction consider making a donation to the PTA.
– If your children enjoy programs like Motor, PE, Gardening, Art, Poetry, Drama and more then make a donation to the PTA. Your donation is tax deductible! PTA Pledge forms can be downloaded from our website. You can also make a donation directly through our website. All donations made by charge cards will be processed through our PayPal account.
Thank you so much for supporting Lakeshore! – Julie Lin

Attention 4th Grade families
Lakeshore’s 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony takes place on Friday, June 4th. Fourth grade parents are needed to work at the graduation set up, ceremony and reception. Please contact Mimi Belmeur to volunteer your help. The whole event should be done by 12:30 (including clean up, if you have enough help!). Pay it forward—remember, next year, your children will be the graduating class and you will want the opportunity to enjoy this special day with your child! Please ask your fellow fourth grade parents to also help. Many hands make light work! Thank you in advance for helping us enjoy this day with our graduates.
