Announcements – January 5

Message from Ms. Keener
Welcome back and Happy New Year to all of our Lakeshore families! I hope everyone set aside time in their hectic schedules to rest and rejuvenate over the Winter break.

REMINDER: If you have a 5th grade child who will be attending an SFUSD middle school next year or an incoming kindergartner, remember to adhere to the enrollment deadline, February 18, 2011. Please come in person to Educational Placement Center at 555 Franklin or the Lakeshore school office, to return your enrollment application.

An Evening with the Principal
Topic for Discussion: Inclusion, Diversity and Community
Monday, January 10, 7:00-8:00 p.m. In the Lakeshore Community Room
Pizza and childcare for all elementary school age children will be available.
On Monday, January 10 the Site Council will present an “Evening with the Principal” to discuss “Inclusion, Diversity and Community” at Lakeshore. This event is timed to follow “Inclusive Schools Week” and precede MLK Day events. Lakeshore serves a very diverse student population; find out how that diversity is honored and discuss how it’s working. For more information, or to request a language interpreter this evening, email lakeshoressc@gmail.com or call the Lakeshore office at 415-759-2825.

Lakeshore PTA meeting in January is cancelled.
Instead, there will be an Auction Planning Meeting on Wed., Jan. 12 from 6:30-8pm.
Pizza and childcare of elementary school age children will be provided.
We expect ALL parents to participate in the auction. So please try to come to give us your input, and to show your support of this major fundraising event. This event generates a third of our budget ($20,000-30,000) to pay for all the enrichment programs, and many of the events held at Lakeshore.

It’s 2011! How can I help my school this year?

AUCTION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
1) Dessert coordinator – help recruit all the great chefs at Lakeshore, by so- liciting their desserts and coordinating a team of volunteers to display and pass out the lovely desserts. Contact Megumi Fuse: megumifuse@gmail.com for a list of previous dessert donors, including a Peet’s coffee sponsor.
2) Food coordinator – work with Knight’s Catering and Lakeshore parents to put together a feast of hors d’oeuvres/tapas delights for the crowd. Contact Megumi Fuse: megumifuse@gmail.com for a list of previous food/appetizer donors.
3) Donation Chair – coordinate enthusiastic parents to stuff envelopes and distribute flyers soliciting donations from the community. We already have a large database of donors, so a majority of the work is getting letters out to them. Most of their donations are already entered in the web database, and many volunteers are available to help. Contact Megumi Fuse:megumifuse@ gmail.com for a list of previous volunteers.
4) Decorations and band – like decorating? Drop by the Janet Pomeroy cen- ter to see how you can liven up our spring auction. Hire the band and set up the stage. Contact Megumi Fuse <megumifuse@gmail.com> for a list of previous bands we have used.
