Announcements – March 10

Test Preparation
Beginning this week teachers will be using test preparation materials to teach students in grades 2-5 test taking strategies. A few of the specific strategies include:
•    Read the test question and ALL answer choices before marking anything.
•    Eliminate answers you know aren’t correct.
•    Read questions to a reading passage before reading the passage. Then, paraphrase the question to yourself to understand what the question is asking.

Below are key dates for parents to support our test preparation.
•    Week of March 7th – Test preparation begins
•    Week of March 14th – Teachers will share test prep materials to parents/guardians during Parent/Teacher conferences.
•    Wednesday, March 23rd – Student test preparation booklets sent home for parents/guardians to continue preparation during the week of Spring Break (3/28-4/1)
•    Week of April 4th – STAR California Standards Testing begins.
Please go to lakeshoreelementary.org for testing schedule. It is also being sent home on Wednesday, March 23rd and posted in the school lobby.

Test preparation suggestions for parents

Let’s Save Motor!
Due to budget cuts, the Motor Perception Program at Lakeshore is in danger of being canceled for the remainder of the school year. To save Motor’s meaning- ful fun, we’re asking that all K-3 families contribute a minimum of $5 to their child’s classroom motor fund. This will ensure the continuation of this enriching program through the month of April.
Please contribute a minimum of $5 to your child’s classroom Motor fund. Cash or checks payable to “Lakeshore PTA” accepted. (Please write “motor” on the memo line.) Or submit a donation online. Donations are due in your class by March 18th.

The poetry book needs typists!
The poetry book is a compilation of poems that students have done with our poet-in-residence, Grace Grafton. 3rd – 5th grade classes are now ready to be typed. 2nd grade classes will be ready very soon. Please contact Toni Vedar if you can help with this project.

Lakeshore Merchandise: last call for this design! A new design will be introduced in the fall and we need to move what we have left! Bring your Lakeshore Spirit Dollars and your wallet to get great deals! See you at the Science Fair/Open House!
