Lakeshore isn’t just a school; it’s a community with a lot going on throughout the year. Here’s a general guide for when to expect what. See our calendar for exact dates.
Some events skip a year, but most are annual.
|Aug||Kindergarten Night||A program to help welcome new families into the Lakeshore community.|
|Aug||Staff Appreciation Lunch||A chance for Lakeshore families to show our appreciation.|
|Aug||First Day of School / Welcome Coffee||All Families come join us in the Community Room after you drop-off your child for our Welcome Coffee.|
|Aug||Ice Cream Social||Celebrate the first week of school with Ice Cream!|
|Sep||Back to School / Orientation||Provides the first opportunity of the school year to interact with your child’s teacher.|
|Oct||PTA Fest||Showcase of Lakeshore’s many Enrichment Programs.|
|Oct||Walk-a-thon and Festival||Students walk to earn school-wide prizes. The money raised goes directly towards supporting Lakeshore’s enrichment programs.|
|Oct||Lakeshore Community Picnic and Gardening Day||Bring some delicious food to share and bring your family to enjoy the sunshine at a garden work party.|
|Oct||Halloween||The Community Room transforms into a haunted house for the day, and students join in the playground costume parade.|
|Nov||Parent / Teacher Fall Conferences||Conferences are a chance to sit down with your child’s teacher to talk about their progress.|
|Dec||Multicultural Potluck||Bring a favorite dish or make a family recipe to share and celebrate Lakeshore’s diversity.|
|Dec||Inclusion Week||Provides an important opportunity to celebrate diversity.|
|Dec||Staff Appreciation Lunch||All teachers and staff are invited to attend a lunch hosted by the families of Lakeshore.|
|Jan||Disco Bingo||Get on your disco boots, broad collared shirts and striped pants to play bingo while enjoying the best tunes from the ’70’s.|
|Feb||Black History Month|
|Feb||Family Math and Literacy Night||Math games show the whole family how much fun numbers and math concepts can be, plus fun activities for the whole family to enhance reading and writing skills.|
|Feb||Read-a-thon and Book Fair||Students collect pledges for enjoying their favorite books and increasing their reading skills. They explore the joys of reading at the Book Fair.|
|Feb||Parent / Teacher Spring Conferences||Conferences are a chance to sit down with your child’s teacher to talk about their progress.|
|Mar||Cleaning Day/ Weeding||Come enjoy our gardens and other Lakeshore families’ company at this community work day.|
|Mar||Science Fair||Admire science projects created by students from all grades.|
|Mar||Open House||Sometimes coupled with Science Fair, classrooms are open for visits and students’ work is displayed.|
|Mar||Spring Fundraiser||Varying from year to year, this fundraiser is our primary event to support Lakeshore programs. In the past events silent auctions have been successful. For 2018, we will hold a silent and live auction on March 17.|
|Apr||Bike-to-School Day||An effort to educate communities about the the healthy benefits of bicycling as a form of transportation.|
|Apr||Superhero Saturday / Raffle||Our spring carnival featuring games, food and activities.|
|May||Graduation||Daytime festivities celebrate a momentous event for graduating fifth-graders and their families.|
|June, July, August||Summer Playdates||A great way to meet friends before the year starts, our 2017 playdates will be held Saturday, June 17 from 10 AM – noon; Sunday, July 16 from 2-4 PM; and Saturday, August 19 from 11 AM – 1 PM|
- Kid’s Night Out: Drop off your students for a fun evening with friends, dinner, snacks, games, and a movie while you enjoy a few hours of time to yourself. Scheduled throughout the school year.
- Community meetings: Scheduled as needed throughout the year by the principal.
- Picture days: Class and individual pictures are taken and are made available for purchase.
- Spirit days: Students are asked to wear Lakeshore-wear or school colors on these days.
- Standardized testing: In April, grades 2-5 take the California Standards Test (CST).
